I am quietly and slowly launching my latest side project, ThisLineIsSecure.com. It is a virtual voicemail + calling card service, and it only took a few weeks of my spare time to develop and launch. I wouldn’t call it “done”, but then again, someone once said that software isn’t released, it escapes. For this blog, the most interesting part was the solitary build process. From one of the about pages:
This website was developed using the following tools and technologies. I would like to thank all of the giants on whose shoulders I stood to develop this service.
This service would not be possible without the Twilio API. For everyone who says it’s just some warmed-over proprietary VoiceXML, I say: I built the alpha in about two weeks of my spare time. Even in beta, they have set the standard for great documentation and REST-y goodness. If only all APIs were as well made.
Anyway, it’s been fun, and I look forward to refining it. I wonder if it will actually lead to any jobs or make money? Time will tell.
